This project is something that can be easily adapted/added on to any Product Design project. It covers Scale of Production, CAD/CAM, Use of 2D Design, and Packaging. The lesson on Scale of Production is especially enjoyable for my students. If required, you could extend the project to cover paper as a material and packaging/recycling logos as well.
Your students will design/make a cardboard box by hand, then refine their design on the computer and produce it using a plotter. In the instruction sheets you will find me referring to the box being for bath bombs, but you can change that very easily. I’ve also fixed the box size, but again this is something you can change.
There is an opportunity to use some web 2.0 technology by setting homework to contribute to a discussion forum.
This project consists of 3 double lessons, but only the first two lessons have to be a double, the others can be taken separately.
