Resource packs

This set of resources are designed for the very weakest students entering secondary school and provide a means for Mathematics departments to provide targeted and appropriate intervention for the small cohort of pupils entering secondary school at Level 3 or below. These pupils are often the most challenging to cater for appropriately; many secondary teachers do not feel adequately prepared to support these pupils and it is often difficult in a classroom environment to provide the personalised support that these pupils require.

The resources are designed to be used on a one-one basis with teaching assistants or older students working with younger pupils across 11 strands of Mathematics. The idea is that a pack [including instructions, activity suggestions and resources needed] is created for each of the 11 strands.

After a small amount of initial training on the resources, teaching assistants or older students can independently support the very weakest students with minimal direction from the class teacher. For example while the majority of a class are working on Probability for example, a teaching assistant could be instructed to work from the Probability pack herewith with a particular student. Everything needed would be in the pack.

Although the resources are not directly linked to National Curriculum levels, they allow progression to be tracked across 11 strands of Mathematics and for appropriate targets to be set. A diagnostic test is included which allows accurate assessment across each of these 11 strands and importantly for progress to be measured.
