The diagnostic test
There are 11 sections to the test, one for each strand.
To be done properly, the initial test may need to go over 2 lessons. It is worth emphasizing that although this test is on the face of it fairly long, it should only be set for students already identified as 'struggling', so as to access the normal curriculum. It needs and it needs to be this length in order to do its job properly.
Each section has numbered questions which correspond directly to each target on the Diagnostic Grid.
For example if a student gets questions 1, 2 and 3 correct on the ‘Place Value’ part of the test but struggles with question 4, their Place Value target would be the 4th entry on this row of the Diagnostic Grid-ie Use decimals in context of of money and measure, initially to 2 decimal places. Develop understanding through practical work.
