This project allows naturally for differentiation to take place as natural leaders will emerge. However, care needs to be taken that lower ability students are not left in the "background" especially as they may feel that they have no value to add to the project. There is always the danger, of course, with group work that some students do not participate or gel with the rest of the group. This, of course, is a teaching point in team work and students should be made to feel accountable to deliver their part of the project outcomes!
However, from experience, we have found that lower ability students shine when put in this scenario especially as there are many "hands on" tasks to be completed and, in fact, groups become engrossed in the film-making process and even become competitive with other groups.
