Linking with other schools

Before exploring setting links with other schools, make sure you have the support of other staff, both teaching and non-teaching. It is a good idea to work out a partnership agreement with any school you wish to link with, formulating shared aims and objectives. Be aware of the dangers of encouraging a patronising relationship between the schools, an over emphasis on poverty and the enhancing of the very stereotypes you are trying to overcome.

In the first instance, it might be a good idea to start forming a  local link which will probably be easier to manage. For instance, a rural school could link with an urban school or the link might be monocultural/multicultural.

The SLIDE web site is a resource for teachers in Lancashire who wish to form partnerships with teachers and their classes in different schools.

The Global Gateway has a database of schools looking for partners whilst the British Council helps schools develop links with schools in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Celebrating!

This section provides ideas from loading the raps onto your school's network and/or uploading them to YouTube and MySpace to presenting them in a live performance, using dancers and video footage. Students should consider opportunities for both celebrating and promoting their work!
