This scheme of work over eleven lessons and aimed at Year 7 students explores factors and prime numbers, and provides opportunities to solve problems using the language of numbers [ie factors and multiples] and understand how factors of numbers relate to area and perimeter problems.
The scheme links to prior learning in Year 6 and future learning in the KS3 curriculum, with the following learning outcomes ...
- Ability to recognise and use multiples, factors (divisors), common factor, highest common factor, lowest common multiple and primes; find the prime factor decomposition of a number (for example, 8000 = 26 × 53).
- Know and use the formula for the area of a rectangle; calculate the perimeter and area of shapes made from rectangles.
- Know and use the order of operations, including brackets.
- Know how to use the laws of arithmetic and inverse operations.
