Digital Video across the curriculum

Over the last three years we have made great strides forward on a cross curricular level not least in the use of digital video at Princethorpe . As well as forming part of our core ICT curriculum at key stage 3, students are using free software for creating digital video projects in a range of subjects areas across the school. The software in question is Microsoft Photostory (makes videos from existing stills photos) or Microsoft Movie Maker (makes videos from exsting still photos or existing video clips). Both of these applications are available via a free down download from Microsoft if you don't have them already. Students have a lot of fun in creating the videos and often use mobile phones and other portable devices to bring finished work in from home.

I am hoping that this project will be of interest to ICT co-ordinators who want to encourage the use of ICT across the curriculum. The software is free and easy to use, other teachers can see the benefits of using it and easily get used to it and the students quickly get good results. The software, in particular Photo Story, has also proved useful as something to offer to primary sector colleagues as a context for cross phase liaison.
