This project can loosely be mapped to the Year 9 Case Study 9.2a but is based around a ficticious music company called 2tone and the database needs of its customers.
Pupils are given a project brief which requires them to produce documentation pertaining to the system life cycle. This is clearly set out in the Project Brief document.
Before attempting this brief, pupils should already have an understanding of databases and how to set up a table, input form and query in Microsoft Access. However, the teacher needs to introduce the System Life Cycle, Project Planning in the form of a Gantt Chart and customisation of an input form. For the most part, pupils are encouraged to work independently until the end of the project, when team work is encouraged.
Ideally, the Project duration is around 8 hours but this is totally dependent upon whether the additional elements (highlighted on the Teacher's Guide) are included.
An optional end to the Project encourages pupils to work as a team to showcase their work in the form of a business presentation to the Managing Director of 2tone. The presentation is assessed against specific criteria and encourages an element of competition amongst pupils in the class, as they must sell their database to 2tone management, who must pick the best presented database! |
