SENTENCE : Revising verb tenses and using language of commands; using imperative verbs. To understand how adverbs help words and use dictionaries. Understand the use of commas, bullet points.

WORD: Spelling adverbs. Identifying Imperative verbs. Identify mis-spelt words in own writing.

Identify features of instructional text. Understand importance of sequence & instructional verbs.

Dressing Boy – interactive. discussion of order and sequential language Drag and drop clothes using the instructions file.

Use the instructions notebook on the interactive whiteboard putting clothing words in order - see page 3. Writing out chronologically using the frame structure.

Plenary: brainstorm Imperative verbs [bossy words] used.

 
 

Lesson 2 [Tuesday]


 

 

 

 


Putting the photos of the tea making in the correct order - see page 5 in the instructions notebook.

Demonstrate correct format for writing the instructions for tea

Use the sandwiches-reorder.doc to put in the sentences in the correct order.

Plenary: discuss homework sheets – writing out instructions for making tea differentiated by photos and extensions

Lesson 3 [Wednesday]

 

 

 

 

Looking at recipe for making Brownies. Discuss information needed layout and chronological order. Demonstrate correct format for writing the instructions for tea

Highlight the adverbs used in the recipe.

Using page 9 in the instructions notebook, write own instructions for making gingerbread including adverbs

Plenary: read through instructions: how could they be improved?

 
 

Lesson 4 [Thursday]

Using beebots [website]Directional instructions. Using blindfold children direct pupil around the classroom. What additional information do they need to use?

Looking at plan of classroom, what questions can they ask and answer to guide the pupil in the wheel chair around the classroom?

Use of LOGO on the computer suite to reinforce directional skills. Group to use 'beebots' to navigate around the classroom, writing instructions for them before programming them - download the guide to using 'beebots'

Plenary: Which words do we need to give good instructions for directions? Are there any adverbs we should use?

 
 

Lesson 5 [Friday]

Use of directional instructions to plan journey to school.

What additional information would we need in giving instructions outside?

Writing out the journey from home to school using north south east west and including any adverbs necessary.

Plenary: Which words do we need to give good instructions for directions? Are there any adverbs we should use?

Plenary: discuss writing of instructions. What have we learnt this week? What verbs do we have to use? What do the adverbs do? How do we write instructions?
