Transformations

Rationale

Transformations is one of my favourite topics to teach. They can be carried out on shapes, images, letters and more. Yet most textbooks just require students to reflect a triangle in a line or rotate a rectangle, etc. Often the work is not very interesting and answers to these types of questions are difficult to read out to the class, therefore the teacher has to mark all the work themselves.

I wanted to create a range of worksheets and resources that use transformations to create an image or a sentence. This way, the teacher would be able to see if a student has made a mistake but also the student would see for themselves if a transformed object was out of place or 'wrong'.

These worksheets and resources require students to perform a variety of transformations on a variety of shapes. The images then fit together like a jigsaw to form a word, phrase or sentence that can easily be checked by the teacher. The accompanying presentations can be used as starters or teaching aids depending on the class. There are also support sheets to go with each presentation that can be used for practice before attempting the main worksheet.
