Relational Databases with Microsoft Access

In one of the exercises you are asked to insert pictures of Video Club members into the database. The display of pictures in MS Access can be problematic. The format of picture that can be displayed may vary according to version of Access and what graphics package is also installed to handle the picture OLE (Object Linking and Embedding). Because Office XP comes with MS Photo Editor, Access XP displays jpegs OK. Office 2003 does not contain Photo Editor so Access 2003 does not display jpegs by default.
A work around to this is to retro install the Photo Editor element of Office XP if you are otherwise using Office 2003. I have included pictures in the worked example in PSD format which will display in Access 2003 if Adobe Photoshop is installed.

About the Simpsons

The Simpsons' address used in the database examples is accurate (although they have moved house) as is the phone number.
Birthdays are accurate although 15 years been added to the children's year of birth and 10 years to the adults in order to make them the correct age at the time of writing (June 2006).
The postcode given is for the Kentucky bourbon factory
