Practical Networking

Rationale
Computer networking is a component of every GCSE and A level ICT course. However much of this prerequisite is theoretical and does not give students the skills to design, create, test or maintain an actual network. Only in Applied or Vocational courses are students expected to actually develop networking skills. The purpose of this site is illustrate the process of creating a patch lead, cable in a wall socket and terminate a patch panel using step by step illustrations which I hope other teachers will find useful.

The author
Since 1993 I have worked as Head of ICT in three different schools of varying size and character in both the independent and state sectors of education. I qualified as a Cisco Network Academy Instructor in 2002 and ran a Cisco Network Academy at Prospect Technology College in Reading for several years. I have taught 12 Unit  Edexcel AVCE ICT and most of the illustrations of students' work stem from delivering that course at that time.
