The
aim of this project is to let pupils participate in a making
activity that has a large science input based upon the production
of a hovercraft. It is hoped that this will then lead on to
an evaluation of the finished product by comparing it to a
commercial hovercraft and then modifying their model in light
of their observations leading to an improved design. Pupils
consider how material properties influence material selection
and it’s working properties. Pupils learn how to shape and
joint polystyrene, card and wood, and also assemble an electric
circuit incorporating a motor, battery and switch.
This
project was run as a primary liaison initiative with Tong
Primary School
The challenge is a great motivator and gives
learning real purpose.
