A eurkaryotic cell is one where the genetic material is organised into a membrane-bound nucleus. Interestingly, the name 'eukaryotic' comes from the Greek eu [meaning good] and karyon [meaning nut ... referring to the cell nucleus].

Eukaryotic cells are found in animals, plants and fungi which are mostly multicellular - also in other groups which are collectively classified as 'protists' and mostly unicellular. In contrast, other organisms [called prokaryotes, for example bacteria] lack nuclei and other complex cell structures.
