| Lesson 1 - rearranging equations | ||||
The
PowerPoint looks at how else an equation can be written. The stars action
different equations for the students to decide on. Then consider rearranging
equations by order of operations. To consider how elements move across
the equals, there is an animation taking across equals, initially the
equation is in the wrong order: There is a worksheet than be used for Level 8 rearranging equation, this is considerably more challenging and looks at equations where expanding and factorising is needed. |

| Lesson 2 - steps of balancing equations | ||||
| Two
worksheets for either partner or individual work. This considers the steps
of balancing equations, asking students to convince themselves or finish
off methods. |

| Lesson 3 - expanding double brackets. | ||||
Use the worksheet for students to investigate how the area of
a rectangle relates to expanding double brackets.
This is a drag and drop activity to consider expanding brackets, initially asking for lots of 1’s then extending this to the actual constant. (In order to run the PowerPoint you may need to set security setting to low in order to run Macros in the presentation). The part of the lesson where there are several arrows for each portion can be used for students to stand in corners of the room for the coefficients. |

| Lesson 4 - factorising quadratics | ||||
| Use
the worksheet for students to investigate the inverse operation of expanding.
The Easiteach activity is for trial and error to work out the factors for a quadratic equation, this can then be supported with the PowerPoint and multiple choice questions. Note: the following downloadable file is specific to use with Easiteach Studio |

the test and the PowerPoint so that students can independently work through
their solutions afterwards. |
