Lesson objectives

All: Understand what a database is, create a data capture form and understand the need for data types

Most: Create a data capture form that is suited to the pupil culture database. Match most the data types to fields.

Some: All the above and match all the correct data types with the fields and Understand all the key words.

Use teacher resource 1; Complete the class database activity. Stressing the key words.

 

Introduce the lesson objectives

 

 

 

 

Create a list of agreed fields with the class on the whiteboard.

These could include:

First name

Forename

Data of Birth

Interests

Gender

Time of going to bed

Amount of pocket money

 

Discuss the data capture form and ask the pupils to design their own using a word processor.

 

Plenary:

Introduce the different data types on teacher resource 1. In groups of 3 pupils need to complete pupil resource 1. Matching the agreed fields to the data types.

 

Discuss answers and agree all the data types

 

Refer back to the objectives

Homework:

Collect a data capture form from a magazine or mail.
