The walker is designed to allow student to participate fully in a systems and control project and experience some of the challenges that are missing when projects are bought as ready-assembled kits. Therefore, students are involved in aligning mechanical components and designing electrical circuits to suit the physical properties of the components.
Pupils can be given whatever resources teachers consider appropriate which may involve manufacturing parts from plans or CNC files. Alternatively staff can produce the parts and allow pupils to simply assembly them. Or students can be given the circuit mask to etch the circuit or asked to design the circuit using appropriate software, depending on the learning objectives.
The project has been completed by Year 10 pupils as well as Young Engineer Club members, ranging in age from Year 7 to 9 [11 to 14]. |
