Interactive Starters in Mathematics

School motto: 'Friendship, excellence and opportunity'

We are practising teachers in Seven Kings High School in Ilford, London.

Tunde Warren: I have been a teacher for 10 years. I started my career in my native Hungary where I taught Mathematics and English for 3 years before I came to England. I have now completed a further 7 years as a Mathematics teacher and for the last 3 years I have been Deputy Head of Mathematics responsible for Key Stage 4. Seven Kings High School is an excellent place to start and develop your teaching career since it provides you with numerous opportunities for professional development. I am extremely interested in the use of technology as a tool to further my students' mathematical knowledge and I am thus responsible for  ICT within the department. I have been using Promethean Interactive Whiteboard for 2 years and have been developing lesson starters which can be used with this board.

Thilaka Naguleswaran: I graduated from Moscow Lumumba University with a First Class degree in Civil Engineering. However, seven years ago I took a new path and qualified as a secondary school mathematics teacher.  I have been teaching at Seven Kings for five years.  I enjoy teaching at Seven Kings as we employ a variety of teaching strategies including using the latest ICT resources.  I am responsible for training PGCE student teachers in the Mathematics Department and I am also the coordinator of the modular GCSE course. I am currently involved in introducing and developing thinking skills in the learning of mathematics using CAME ( Cognitive Acceleration in Mathematics Education).
