USEFUL INFORMATION

Copyright Laws

It is very important to remember that music is generally copyrighted http://www.theiac.org.uk/central/copyright.htm and you are not allowed to use this in any work that will be shown, e.g. on a website. There are ways to overcome this legally. Search for material which is covered by “COPYLEFT” - http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/copyleft.html

You can also search for material available in “PUBLIC DOMAIN” and “COPYRIGHT FREE”. You can purchase music reasonably cheaply to use with your pupils from (among others):

Privacy

It is advisable to obtain permission from parents if you will be including video clips or pictures of pupils for publication, for example on your website. Most schools have a policy that pupils’ names will not be published alongside their picture.

I have included two letters to parents. The first letter asks for permission for pupils to take part in the project. The second letter informs the parents of the project and asks them to write in if they have any objections.

The following websites provide useful tutorials for using Moviemaker:

There are many more – just search for MOVIEMAKER TUTORIAL

File sizes

The video files are very large. My video lasted 1 minute 40 seconds and took up 7Mb. In my lessons, I have asked the technicians to set up a special user area and password, saving the working file to the local hard disk. The pupils finished project is then finally saved on a USB removable storage device.
