A picture of the water carriers made by the Gospel Oak childrenThis project was designed to achieve two aims - to boost the amount of water drunk by the children in primary schools and to design a system for storing drinking water in each class. Children need to drink more water to function at their best and so be able to drink while they work. In order to achieve this we need a system in the classroom for storing water that is practical and to raise the children's awareness of the importance of being hydrated.

The project is cross-curricula and links with Science and ICT objectives in the National Curriculum. It also allows children to work on their graphic design skills. This project involved a small group of children from years 4-6, but it can easily be adapted for a whole class.

If you want to run a similar project in your school, various resources are available here, including a scheme of work, a powerpoint presentation made by the children, and various worksheets and lists of web links.
